About Us
Langs Building Supplies has been operating since the 1970’s. Originally Bob and Max Lang commenced business as Lang Bros. in Dennis Road Springwood.
The first venture was low-key, the buildings were functional but not luxurious, by any means.
The partnership started with 2 staff members, Bob and Max. Gradually, sales built up. The timber yard was moved to Main Street Beenleigh where we continued to operate for a number of years.
In 1990 the partnership between Max and Bob was finalised and Bob and his wife, Glenys, bought land at Yatala. Bob foresaw a market for roof trusses, and he built a factory on 10 acres on the Pacific Highway. Bob’s vision proved to be well-founded and the business continued to grow.
Over the years, Langs Building Supplies has diversified its product range, adding prefabricated wall frames, then timber floor trusses to the fabricated timber products.
The Builders Supply yard at Beenleigh was already selling timber and some hardware lines but an extra 10 acres was purchased at Yatala which allowed for further expansion on the Yatala site. A drive-through Builders Supply Centre was purpose built at Yatala. The Beenleigh site was sold in 1999 and the Yatala site continued to expand. The Builders Supply Centre started as a 1500sqm building but has grown now to 7300 sqm, in total.
In 2000, Bob decided to expand into Windows and he built a 1500 sqm aluminium joinery on the Yatala site. This building has now been expanded to 2040 sqm with the addition of purpose built showroom to showcase some of the products we manufacture and supply. A further extension is planned for the manufacturing area. The joinery specialises in windows and doors for the domestic market, and can also supply safety screens to measure. A measure and install facility is available.
The desire to service a wider range of customers led to the decision to open a 1000sqm Home Hardware franchise on the Yatala site. Trading 7 days a week, the store is staffed by specialists who can give free and informed advice on any home project.
To protect and provide a better quality product, a 3000 sqm timber warehouse was built in 2005 to enable all timber to be housed under one roof. Hardware sales took over the space previously allocated to Timber products, giving a total of 3300 sqm of undercover space, devoted to builders’ hardware products.
The result is a wider range of products than ever before - available to a diverse range of customers - d-i-y enthusiasts, tradespeople, and local and national home builders.
The company runs a fleet of trucks from semi-trailers down to utes, to deliver product from the Tweed to Caloundra, across to Ipswich.
Today, the company has grown significantly from the 2 man backyard operation it was in the mid seventies, and now over 240 people are employed on the Yatala site.
Some things haven’t changed though. The company is as committed to keeping pace with advances in technology, providing great customer service, selling at fair prices and offering good advice as it was when Bob and Max first started.
Message from Bob Lang
Since this building supply business commenced in the 1970's, the focus has been upon providing quality goods and quality service to our many valued customers.
My company is Queensland owned and family oriented. My son works with me to continue the family tradition and we employ more than 240 staff which benefits the local community significantly.
We have an in-house training facility which offers young people who are prepared to work hard the chance to learn a valuable skill. In addition, we are constantly training and adding to the skills our staff already have.
Our staff are friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, and can give customers prompt and professional advice. We are sure that our most comprehensive range of quality goods will suit every budget.
We currently supply the needs of a wide range of customers, including major building construction companies, small business and home handymen in southeast Queensland.
Today we have consolidated all our building and fabrication operations to the Yatala property and now have the capacity to fabricate the equivalent of 20 house lots of roof trusses and wall frames daily. I believe our Yatala headquarters to be the largest Queensland-owned building and fabrication centre in Queensland.
Over the last 30 years we have experienced continual growth and we continue to look for opportunities to grow and excel in our marketplace.
